NVQ Construction Courses

NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications) are work-based qualifications designed to assess and certify your competence in a specific job role. Unlike traditional academic qualifications, NVQs focus on practical skills and knowledge rather than theory, and are achieved through a combination of workplace assessments and observations, exams and portfolio building. Not all NVQs include exams.

They are awarded by City & Guilds, the global skills development leader, and are industry recognised qualifications, which puts them in high demand. Many companies ask for City & Guilds qualifications when employing new staff, and the construction industry in particular value NVQs.

There are seven NVQ levels, ranging from Level 1 (entry-level) to Level 7 (strategic leadership). Each level builds on the knowledge and skills learned at the previous level, gradually increasing your expertise and responsibility within your industry. NVQ Level 2 Construction

Example role: Skilled worker

• Work in a construction environment and apply a range of construction skills and knowledge.
• Contribute to construction activities as part of a team.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of health and safety procedures.

NVQ Level 3 Construction

Example role: Site supervisor

• Perform construction tasks to a set standard, demonstrating a broad knowledge and understanding of a particular trade.
• May take on some supervisory responsibilities, leading a small team.
• Ensure work is completed to a high standard and in accordance with plans and specifications.

NVQ Level 4 Construction

Example role: Construction site supervisor

• Supervise a small team and ensure work is completed to a high standard and in line with set plans.
• Oversee health and safety procedures on a construction site.
• Deal with technical problems and ensure tasks are completed efficiently.

Example role: Senior Construction Manager

• Develop, implement and lead on complex construction projects.
• Manage budgets and resources effectively.
• Identify and solve complex problems.

Example role: Construction director

• Provide strategic leadership and technical expertise across the construction industry.
• Manage large and complex construction projects.

NVQ Level 7 Diploma in Construction Senior Management

We give an average time that each course should take to complete but this can either be quicker or slower, depending on how much time each student can dedicate to their learning.

Assessors are available throughout the working week to help with any course queries, so students know there is always someone on hand to help should they need assistance. And with NVQ courses also available via Zoom, there’s not even any need to be away from the workplace or to wait for months until a course becomes available in your area.
