NRSWA Operative Course Overview
The NRSWA Operative (New Roads and Street Works) training course is essential for any employee involved in working on or adjacent to the public highways as defined by regulations supportive to the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
This NRSWA training course covers the procedures and guidelines for working on roads and highways. The course and qualifications achieved on successful completion of the course are aimed at those who are either employed by local authorities, utilities companies or contractors and are required to carry out work on roads, highways or on footpaths. It is an absolute necessity that those working on public highways or even adjacent to them take the relevant NRSWA training course to achieve the required level of competence to help avoid serious accidents and incidents.
Who is the NRSWA Operative Course for?
This NRSWA Training course is designed for NRSWA operatives who actually carry out the work on the roadways and highways. This includes excavation, backfill and reinstatement of materials during street works.
What Does the NRSWA Operative Course Cover?
The NRSWA Course for Operatives is a 5 day course and covers the following units: -
- LA - Location & avoidance of underground services
- Unit 01 - Signing, Lighting & Guarding
- Unit 02 - Excavation in the highway. Specifications, techniques, road types, materials
- Unit 03 - Reinstatement & compaction of backfill materials
- Unit 04 - Reinstatement of non-bituminous sub-base & road-base materials
- Unit 05 - Laying practices and reinstatement of cold lay bituminous materials. Specification & types of materials.
- Unit 08 - Reinstatement of modular surfaces & concrete footways
It is considered that the natural progression following the completion of the New Roads and Street Works Act Operative training is to then complete the NRSWA Supervisor Course, which is also a 5 day course.
There is also the NRSWA Operative Re-Assessment Course for delegates that have previously taken this NRSWA Operative course. The Re-Assessment course must be taken 6 months prior or 6 months after the expiry date of their existing card, factoring in a potential 8 week processing period.
