• Appreciate the significance of health surveillance for all employees working with hazardous substances

• The effects of hazardous substances on health
• The benefits of COSHH and risk assessment
• Legal regulations, including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, as amended, and CLP Regulation
• Code of practice and guidelines
• Law enforcement
• Employer versus employee responsibilities
• The occupations most at risk of ill-health
• Common health hazards, including dermatitis and asthma
• Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR)
• How to identify hazardous substances
• Chemical labelling, emergency procedures and safety data sheets
• Flammable substances – liquids, dusts and gases
• Asbestos and lead
• How to carry out risk assessments
• Substituting substances and the principles of good control practice
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working systems
• Assessments: record your findings, implement changes, review and update
• Health surveillance and Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs)

Assessment

At the end of this e-learning course, you will need to take an online exam containing 15 multiple-choice questions. The exam is marked automatically and you’ll find out your results straight away. A pass mark of 80% is required, however, if you are unsuccessful, you can re-take the exam as many times as you need to at no extra charge.
