For anyone considering taking an International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) examination, there is much to learn. This course is one of the most useful forms of safety training in the UK and goes a long way to boosting your safety knowledge overall. IPAF is for anyone who will be using any kind of powered access equipment when in the workplace. On an IPAF course, you will learn a range of different skills that could, in theory, make your job easier and safer. What, though, can you expect to learn on this course?
One of the main things you learn on an IPAF course is versatility. You will be able to operate and demonstrate the equipment that you would be using in the workplace. On an IPAF course, you learn particular skills for different roles, i.e. an operator, a demonstrator, an installer and even an instructor. Many people recommend that you take an IPAF course as it can make a massive difference in how you work, improving how you go about your day-to-day regardless of your role.
From learning how to operate a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) or a Mast Climbing Work Platform (MCWP), you'll learn how to use the tools and skills which are most useful to you on the job. Given the danger and the risks of such equipment, skills learnt during an IPAF course could quite literally save your life or someone else's.
Another bonus of taking such a course is that you will learn about the specific and unique conditions that you will be facing. These safety courses are a significant part of IPAF training, and it will ensure that you're used to handling emergency and challenging situations as and when they arise. Circumstances can change in any workplace in a flash, and this training will often be adjusted to help you find out what you need to know. This will give you all the information that you need to know about how to use equipment in special circumstances, improving overall workplace safety standards moving forward.
A significant part of operating MEWPs with due care and diligence requires understanding how to conduct pre-use checks, inspections and function tests. This experience will prevent you from using faulty equipment or in poor condition, reducing safety hazards.
The one-day IPAF 3a & 3b course is intended for those that operate a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP). So if you operate boom or scissor lifts or a vehicle-mounted or trailer boom lift, this course is for you. Delegates take this course to comply with the responsibilities assigned upon employers and employees by law.
This is a half-day course (minimum 4 hours) and provides you with training to safely use harnesses and lanyards when using a range of (MEWP) Mobile Elevated Work Platforms.
