This 5 day CITB SMSTS Training course is designed for site managers, site agents and persons who are, or due to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff and a workforce. In order to obtain the qualification delegates MUST attend all days of their chosen course.
The SMSTS certificate is valid for 5 years, after which time candidates are required to sit the SMSTS Refresher course to renew their SMSTS certification
Training will cover relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.
Delegates under the age of 18 must provide written consent from a parent or guardian to successfully attend.

The SMSTS course will cover the following topics: -
At the end of the CITB SMSTS course delegates are required to sit an exam paper consisting of 25 questions. There are 18 multiple choice questions (each worth one mark) and 7 questions in multi-response or short written answer format (each worth two marks). The SMSTS exam pass mark is 81% (26 out of 32).
Delegates must attend all 5 days, in accordance with the SMSTS course programme, to achieve the necessary learning objectives and qualify for the SMSTS certificate.
This certificate will expire after five years. In order to remain qualified certificate holders are required to sit the SMSTS two day refresher course to renew their qualification for a further five years.
This 5 day course is intended for project managers, site managers and site supervisors as well as proprietors of small to medium sized companies. Client-based personnel would also benefit from attending the course.
A good understanding of spoken and written English will be necessary in order to attend and complete the course successfully.
