CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection Course (SITS)

Overview

Using a combination of theory and practical tests, this CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection (SITS) course will build upon your existing knowledge and experience of scaffolding inspection and safety.

By the end of three days’ training, you’ll be confident in your ability to inspect basic scaffold structures for safety, recognise potential hazards and complete relevant safety reports. As a manager or supervisor, you’ll be able to carry out relevant safety checks to ensure that scaffold on your work site complies with the Work at Height Regulations, 2005.

Objectives

By the end of this CISRS Scaffold Inspection (SITS) course, you will be able to:

  • Identify a range of scaffold components and equipment
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Understand the requirements of the Work at Height Regulations 2005
  • Accurately carry out a scaffold safety inspection and create a report
  • Recognise faults and potential hazards on scaffold structures
  • Explain scaffold requirements in relation to ground conditions and foundations
  • Understand methods of access and egress
  • Demonstrate the key features and uses of scaffold ties, working platforms, guardrails, toeboards and stability

This three-day CISRS Scaffold Inspection (SITS) course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to scaffolding and scaffolding terminology
  • The Work at Height Regulations 2005
  • British, European and Industry Standards (NASC)
  • Overview of SG4:10 Fall Arrest Equipment
  • Tube, fittings and boards
  • Safe ladder access and egress
  • Scaffolders training and working methods
  • Bracing and tying scaffolds
  • Fan boards and public protection
  • Mobile, static and loading towers
  • Birdcage scaffolds
  • Beams and bridging beams
  • Various types of system scaffolding
  • How to carry out a thorough scaffolding inspection
  • Scaffold tagging systems
  • Scaffold inspection exercise
  • Test your knowledge

Assessment

You will be required to take both written and practical tests to pass this CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection course.

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for managers and supervisors responsible for inspecting scaffolds and completing safety reports in accordance with the Work at Height Regulations 2005. You need to have prior working knowledge of scaffold and be able to provide evidence of this, as well as the relevant pre-requisites below.

CISRS - Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme

Prerequisites

In order to attend the this specialist construction training course delegates must provide evidence that they have completed one of the following within the last 2 years: -

  • CITB HS&E test
  • CCNSG Safety Passport / CCNSG LaTS
  • NEBOSH General/Construction/International Certificate
  • CITB SMSTS
  • CITB SSSTS
  • FAS Safe Pass
  • IOSH Managing Safely / IOSH Working Safely / IOSH Directing Safely
  • Current offshore Survival Certificate (MIST/BOSIET/OPITO)

In addition to the above delegates must prove they have scaffold awareness by supplying evidence in ONE of the following categories: -

1. Delegates will already hold one of these cards -

  • Delegate holds a current CISRS Scaffolder card
  • Delegate holds a current CISRS Advanced Scaffolder card
  • Delegate holds a current CISRS Scaffolding Supervisor card
  • Delegate holds a current or expired CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection card and is attending the course in order to renew their card

2. Delegates will have worked in one of the below job roles for a minimum of two years.  Evidence of this will need to be supplied via the Delegate Entry Check Form (supplied on booking) which must be endorsed by their employer to confirm suitable awareness of scaffold structures.

  • Scaffold Designer
  • Contracts Manager
  • Engineer
  • Site Agent/Manager
  • H&S Manager
  • HSE Inspector

3. They have previously attended a non-CISRS Inspection/Awareness course at least 2 years before.

Failure to supply any of the above will result in the delegate being refused entry to the course.  No refunds will be given.

DELEGATES ARE REQUIRED TO BRING A PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH FOR THEIR CARD
