Abrasive Wheels Course

Overview

This safety training course is designed to help the individual understand their responsibilities within the workplace and is aimed at persons working with Abrasive Wheels. It is a legal requirement under The Provision and use of Work Equipment 1998 (PUWER) that all staff who use abrasive wheels receive abrasive wheels training in the safe use of the tools and changing of wheels.

The aim of this course is to provide training to comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulation 1998 (PUWER).

 

Objectives

On successful completion of the Abrasive Wheels training course candidates will be able to:

  • Identify the significant hazards associated with the mounting and use of abrasive wheels.
  • To satisfy legislative requirements concerning the use of such equipment.
  • To prevent injury to the persons mounting or using the abrasive wheel Outline Programme

This course will cover the following topics: -

  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels
  • Methods of marking abrasive wheels
  • Methods of storage, handling and transportation
  • Testing and inspection
  • Methods of mounting on equipment
  • Method of dressing wheels
  • Compounds used in manufacture
  • Accident statistics

 

Assessment

On successful completion of this safety course candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.

Who Should Attend?

Anyone who fits abrasive wheels to work equipment or uses work equipment fitted with abrasive wheels should take this safety course to comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, and the Heath and Safety at Work Act 1974.
