Overview

This NPORS Sligner Signaller course will be delivered through a combination of classroom learning and practical sessions to to teach attendees how identify load weights and lift them safely, as a qualified slinger signaller.  Anyone wishing to attend this novice course will need excellent observation skills in order to be the eyes and ears of the lifting team – directing crane operators and maintaining site safety.

At the end of this course, delegates who successfully pass both theory and practical elements will receive an NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years.  Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test has been completed within the last two years.

Objectives

By the end of this NPORS training course, you will have a solid understanding of the relevant health and safety requirements necessary to carry out work effectively on a construction site, industrial site or similar.

You’ll learn the practicalities of load weight and dimensions on the stability of a crane, as well as how to communicate clearly and effectively in a busy working environment. You’ll be able to signal potential hazards to crane operators, set up exclusion zones and take swift action in an emergency.

Agenda

This accredited Slinger Signaller training course will cover the following topics:

  • What does a slinger signaller do?
  • Worksite dangers – how to spot a potential hazard and avoid workplace accidents
  • Your responsibilities as a banksman
  • Identifying different types of lifting equipment, accessories and functions
  • Understanding manufacturers guidelines and procedures
  • Health and safety legislation
  • Documentation – finding and understanding the relevant information
  • Determine load weight and dimensions
  • Communicating clearly to the loading team using plant equipment signals
  • Safely co-ordinate a number of cranes moving loads around a site
  • Crane stability: understanding the impact of load weight and dimension
  • Calculate safe working loads and centre of gravity
  • What happens to the tension in a multi-leg sling as the angles increase?
  • Setting up exclusion zones and taking action in an emergency
  • Selecting and maintaining relevant PPE
  • How to carry out pre-use checks and identify non-serviceable items
  • Understanding lifting accessories and when to use them

Assessment

At the end of this NPORS training course, delegates are required to take an assessment paper and practical test. If successful, you’ll be awarded the traditional NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years. 

Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that you’ve completed the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test within the last two years. 

The NPORS Red card will be valid for two years and prior to the card expiry you'll need to register for a relevant plant NVQ. After successfully completing your NVQ, you’ll be issued with a blue Competent Operators Card, which is valid for five years.

Prerequisites
