Overview

This Confined Space Low Risk Course is accredited by City & Guilds and will provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely in a low risk confined space environment.

The one day City & Guilds course is essential for those who enter low risk confined spaces and who may need to demonstrate confined spaces risk assessment qualifications including entry requirements and self-rescue procedures.

  • Minimum Age to attend this course is 18
  • Since entering and working in confined space may be strenuous and demanding, delegates should be physically fit and in good health.  Delegates should generally not have problems with eyesight, hearing heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma, epilepsy, fear or heights/confined spaces, vertigo, difficult with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.

Objectives

Students will be trained on how to risk assess confined space hazards. This will include the use of harness tripod, man-riding winch/fall arrest and safety lines, types of gaseous atmospheres, portable gas monitoring equipment and their use, plus emergency preparedness and procedures.

The low risk confined space course will cover the following topics:

  • Legislation, regulations and guidance
  • Confined space definition and classification
  • Risk assessment and workplace safety
  • Control measures - method statement and permit to work
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) 
  • Safe access
  • Atmosphere testing
  • Gas detection and ventilation
  • Emergency planning
  • Personal hygiene and first aid requirements
  • Practical training

Assessment

Delegates will take part in practical exercises with the equipment including tripods, winches/fall arrest retrieval units, harnesses and gas monitors. Assessment will also include planning a confined space entry and a written test. Delegates will be observed during practical assessments.

Successful students will be awarded with a City & Guilds Level 2 Qualification.

Who Should Attend?

Anyone who works in low risk confined spaces, where access is simple and unobstructed and there is no likely risk of flooding, for example meter pits, valve chambers, booster pumping stations and PRV chambers.

  • Will lunch be Included?

    The joining instructions will indicate if lunch is provided for the duration of your course.  Should you need to know prior to booking please contact one of our team who will be happy to advise.

  • When will I receive my Course Joining Instructions?

    Course joining instructions are sent 7 to 10 days prior to course commencement.  If you book within this time frame they are emailed within 24 hours of the booking being placed.

  • What time does my course start?

    Start and finish times are confirmed on your joining instructions which are issued 7 to 10 days prior to course commencement.  Failure to arrive at the requested time may result in the delegate being turned away.

  • Will I be required to wear PPE?
