Overview
The CITB Health & Safety for Directors course aims to ensure that health and safety is appreciated by people at the most senior level who are responsible for determining their organisation's safety policy.

Objectives
Candidates who successfully complete this CITB course will gain knowledge and skills in: -
- Moral and human costs/the implications of decisions made in the boardroom
- The economical implications of an unsafe working environment
- The legal responsibilities with regard to health and safety
- The principles and importance of the risk assessment process
- Appointing competent health and safety assistance and the limitations of such an appointment
- The basic tools of introducing a proactive health and safety culture
Agenda
The CITB Directors Health & Safety Course will cover the following topics: -
- Introduction and course aims
- The Director's legal duties
- The Director's responsibilities
- Principals of risk assessments and importance of the process
- Health and safety planning
- Financial implications of health and safety
- The non-prescriptive approach to legislation
- Recognising the need for competent health and safety assistance
Assessment
Assessment is through a combination of classroom performance and case study-based questions. Candidates will be continuously assessed throughout the course.
The paper is in two parts; 10 questions based on the course, followed by 10 questions associated with a case study. The examination CITB Health & Safety for Directors exam pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30). Certification is valid for 5 years.
Who Should Attend?
This course is aimed at directors and senior managers, with the purpose of recognising the human, economical and finanical implications of non-compliance with health and safety legislation.

Prerequisites
Delegates must meet the below pre-requisites to be eligible for attendance:
- A good understanding of spoken and written English will be necessary in order to attend and complete the course successfully.
- Either previously completed the CITB Health & Safety Course for Directors OR have working knowledge of the below health & safety legislation as the course assessment will require delegates to consider these in context of the directors' role and responsibility:
- Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
- Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969
- Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) 2015
- Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
